Semi Precious Stone Calcite

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The other polymorphs in calcite are the minerals aragonite and vaterite. The aragonite will change to calcite at 470°C, and vaterite is even less stable.

Calcite seas existed in Earth history when the primary inorganic precipitate of calcium carbonate in marine waters was low-magnesium calcite that opposed to the aragonite and high-magnesium calcite precipitated.

Formation of the crystal: The poorly ordered ACC (amorphous calcium carbonate) forms the calcite stone. The minute particles of ACC dehydrate and crystallize to form vat rite, it dissolute and re-precipitate to from calcite. The mechanism of re-precipitation is a rate controlled reaction and it is ten times slower than the first stage of crystallization. The calcite may also occur in volcanic or mantle derived rocks and it is the vein mineral in hot spring deposits, metamorphic marble.

Crystal Healing: The crystal healers use calcite crystal for treating hormonal imbalance, detoxification of kidneys. The semi precious stone is closely related to heart chakra and infuse positive vibrations to the wearer, so it is the key stone in crystal meditation.

The mineral Calcite primarily often constituent of the shells of marine organisms, e.g., plankton (such as coccoliths and planktic foraminifera), the hard parts of red algae, some sponges, brachiopoda, echinoderms, most bryozoa, and parts of the shells of some bivalves, such as oysters and rudists).
