Semi Precious Stone Demantoid
Demantoid is the green gemstone variety of the mineral andradite.
It is a member of garnet group and the andradite is the calcium,
iron rich garnet. Demantoid is an expensive and rare of garnet
gemstones with fine specimens pricing thousands of dollars per
carat.
The appearance of demantoid is green, but exact shade ranged
from light yellowish peridot green to nearby colors of fine emerald.
Demantoid also has a high refractive index of 1.80 to 1.89 and
the chemical formula is Ca3Fe2(SiO4)3 with chromium. The gemstones
with more intense green coloration are more highly valued, but
lighter stones display substantially more fire.
