The appearance of demantoid is green, but exact shade ranged from light yellowish peridot green to nearby colors of fine emerald. Demantoid also has a high refractive index of 1.80 to 1.89 and the chemical formula is Ca3Fe2(SiO4)3 with chromium. The gemstones with more intense green coloration are more highly valued, but lighter stones display substantially more fire.
