The German gemstone museum displays worldwide exhibition of gems both in ground form as crystals and gemstones. The gem collection includes 500 years Edelstein region Idar-Oberstein, The gems of Hildegard von Bingen, German stone carving from the Green Vault in Dresden, The Egg - Easter eggs from Precious Gem, Precious stones, wooden, Tourmaline 2000, Precious tiepins, Colored stones - Dark pictures: Magical gems, Edelsteingravierungen in changing times, Hydropower and Gemstone, Agate and jasper - roots of the gemstone region Idar-Oberstein, Minerals and Gems on Stamps, Diamond and Idar-Oberstein and Gem Treasures from Namibia. The exhibition is managed by volunteer board of trustees of 15 enthusiastic friends of museum gems, professionals of various disciplines from gem cutters and master engraver, gemstone dealers of different specialization, gemologists and gem research to the university professor.

The German gemstone museum displays approximately 10000 gemstone varieties from all over the world. The exhibition begins with minerals and rocks from idar-oberstein regions following by agate and jasper. Also, it displays museum mineralogical collection of nearly every known cut gemstone variety.

Classical and modern gemstones diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald, aquamarine, peridot, Spinel, tanzanite, garnet and multi colored tourmaline can be found in the first floor. Gemstone used for technical and industrial purposes are also displayed in the museum.
