Garnet displays the greatest variety of color of any mineral, happening in every color except blue. Pyrope is usually purplish red, orangey red, crimson, or dark red; and almandine is deep red, brownish red, brownish black or violet-red. Spessartite garnet could be red, reddish orange, orange, and yellow-brown, reddish brown or blackish brown.
A few garnets show a color-change phenomenon. They are one color when view in natural light and one more color when viewed in incandescent light.
