YOUNG red kites which have hatched in the Derwent Valley in Gates head have been fixed with leg rings and wing tags.
Gates head Council tree-climber Simon Donkin had the task of attractive the young kites from their nest more than 60ft up in a sycamore tree in the Derwent Walk Country Park close to Winlaton Mill.
The delicate exercise involved the young birds being lowered to the ground in a bag where they were weighed, deliberate and then fitted with their international identification rings and wing tags.
