Gemstone export rises in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka predicts its gem and jewelry exports to go up by another 10 per cent this year and assist it earn US$100 million in revenue. Sri Lanka is among the world’s five top gemstones exporters and earned Rs 19.19 billion rupees in forex trading during the first five months of this year in spite of political turmoil and the war situation in the north and east. It was a 9.8 percent increase when contrasted to earnings of the same period previous year, amounting to Rs 17.47 billion. Blue sapphire, or the nationwide gemstone, is the foremost variety among the 75 different gem stones found in the country – where 90 percent of the land mass is measured potentially gem-bearing.

Ex-jeweler gets 15 years for ‘theft’

STUART – Four years ago, an Ex-jeweler went for an insurance claim for the thefts of diamonds and sapphires at their Sewall’s Point jewelry store won Steve and Wendalyn Clark a $132,000 payout from their insurance company.

But last week, several months after a Martin County jury concluded Steve Clark staged the event, the former jeweler was verdict to 15 years in prison and an additional seven years of probation.

He sentence ends – no less than for now – the illegal proceedings involving the Clarks, whose marriage and family crumbled with the ruin of their business, their public arrests and a bombardment of lawsuits from creditors that last year encouraged a public auction of jewels from their store.
