We are Loving: Phillip Crangi’s Vintage Glass Bead Necklaces

August 06, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Jewelry

Phillip Crangi has long been heralded for his exclusive, artistic approach to jewelry, so it’s no surprise that his newest attempt is a perfect mixture of a number of trends dominating garnishing right now — from vintage and tribal influences to the whole crafty, friendship-bracelet-inspired movement.
The new line of necklaces incorporates colorful beads from Africa strung on weak chains that look just pitch-perfect for summer, and would also make excellent transitions into fall: Picture them balancing with a white dress and a tan now, for example, then with a slouchy tee, blazer, and jeans come fall. The bright jewelry themselves are just perfect: As Crangi told Refinery29, “Each bead is like a little gem.”
The best part about the total deal? At $55-$75 a pop, they’re also critically affordable. That said, they are likely to sell out quickly, so pick up your own at The Crangi Family Project at 9 Ninth Avenue.

East Midlands artist gets ‘Hare-raising’ costs

August 02, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Jewelry

East Midlands based jewellery designer Rachel Helen has brought the magical of Kit Williams’ famous golden hare charm to a couple in Lincolnshire, by finishing a commissioned necklace modelled on the unique.
The golden hare was the star of a wonderfully illustrated children’s story by Kit Williams called Masquerade, which caused a feeling upon release back in 1979, as it detained clues to the location of an 18 carat gold amulet. The story told of Jackrabbit, a messenger among the sun and moon that lost a wealth on a journey between the two and the clues within the pages pointed to a very real treasure that had been crafted and hidden in a park in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, by the author.
Paul specially made the piece for his wife, Rosey, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the book’s journal. The design, made from 18 carat gold with slight patterns hand cut in the body of the hare and finished by a moon, stars and semi precious stones balanced under, was carefully created by Rachel over a period of months in her Ilkeston studio.
Rosey, the new proprietor of the necklace was struck by the complexity of the hare, and is very happy with all the concentration it attracts, as is husband Paul (who makes a extraordinary exterior in the necklace, represented by a tortoise charm). Upon conclusion he said: “The hare has exceeded all my opportunity,” even though he said he already knew it would thanks to Rachel’s “fantastic and accurate illustrations” through the design process.
Helen said: “The second I saw the [Kit Williams] piece I was hooked! This was a dream charge for me from start to finish. The design, the representation, the beauty of the material and gemstones made it an absolute joy to work on. It was made even better by considering it worn with such pride.” Rachel Helen Designs offers commissions in all precious metals, including the newly recognised Palladium. Rachel also has a variety of collections offering incomplete edition or bespoke products.
