State Hermitage Museum



State Hermitage Museum is a museum of art and culture situated in Saint Petersburg Russia. It is one of the largest and oldest museums in the world founded in the year 1764 by Catherine the great. The state hermitage museum collection includes more than 3 million works of art and artifacts of the world culture paintings, graphic works, sculptures and works of applied art archaeological finds and numismatic material. It occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the river Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg.

The jewelry and decorative art museum consist of four small rooms on the ground floor, enclosed in the middle of the new hermitage between the room displaying classical antiques. The first treasure gallery comprises western jewelry from the 4th millennium BC to the early 20th century AD. While the second treasure gallery consist jewelry from pontic steppes, Caucasus and Asia in particular Scythian and sarmatian gold.

The first floor, the Pavilion Hall consists of 18th-century golden Peacock Clock by James Cox and a collection of mosaics with 19th-century imitation of an ancient Roman mosaic. Two galleries along the western side of the Small Hermitage occupies Western European decorative and applied art of the 12th to 15th century and the fine art of the Low Countries from the 15th and 16th centuries.
