Semi Precious Stone Kyanite

Kyanite is a member of aluminosilicate series that includes polymorph andalusite and sillimanite. The name kyanite is derived from the Greek word kyanos meaning blue, typically blue silicate mineral found in aluminium rich metamorphic pegmatites or secondary rock.

The minerals associated are andalusite, sillimanite, quartz, staurolite, micas and garnets. The other names for kyanite are disthene, munkrudite, cyanite, rhaeticite (white grey kyanite). The mineral kyanite is used as a gemstone, ceramic product, electrical insulators, and also as an abrasives. The colors of kyanite mineral are blue, greenish blue and it is found in Nepal, India, Burma, USA and Kenya.
