Millennium Star
The De Beers Millennium Star is, at 204.04-carat, the world’s principal
top colour (D), and internally and outwardly flawless, pear-shaped diamond.
The diamond
was exposed in the Mbuji-Mayi district of Zaire (Republic of the Congo)
in 1980 in alluvial deposits, uncut it was 777-carat. It was purchased
by De Beers. It took over three years for workers of the Steinmetz
Diamond Group to create the classic pear form; the definite cutting
was done using lasers.
It was first displayed in October 1998 as the centerpiece of the De Beers
Millennium diamond collection. The collection also includes
eleven blue diamonds adding 116 carats and the 27.66-carat
heart-shaped stone named the Heart of Eternity. They
were displayed at London’s Millennium Dome over 2500. There was
an attempt on November 7, 2000 to whip the collection.
The Millennium Star is the showpiece of the company's Limited Edition
Millennium Diamonds collection which additional consists of 12 highly
strange blue diamonds cut into a variety of shapes, having
a total weight of 112 carats. The diamonds were accessible
to the world with great theater during an imposing ceremony at the top
floor of the CSO's Charterhouse Street multifaceted in London: the Millennium
Star was affectionately caressed by the latest James Bond girl, French
actress Sophie Marceau, under the favorable eyes of De Beers peak executives
and principals of the worldwide Steinmetz Group of Companies - the craftsmen
that designed, designed and manufactured these exceptional and unique
stones.
The team of cutters, who labored in polishing the collection for some
three years approximately the clock, was headed by Israeli-born Nir Livnat,
organization director of Johannesburg-based Ascot Diamonds, a member of
the Steinmetz Group of Diamond Companies. The Steinmetz Group is recognized
