Kazanjian Red,

Kazanjian red diamond is a 5.05 carat Asscher cut red diamond found near Lichtenburg, South Africa. It is one among the three red diamonds 5.11ct moussaieff red trilliant shaped and 5.03 ct De Young Red. The diamond was formerly known as “Red Diamond” and cut from a 35 carat piece of boart found in South Africa. The red diamond is the centerpiece of Kazanjian Foundation. During 1913, the South African geologist predicted that the rich deposit will found his history. A diamond broker bought the stone by paying £8 per carat and showed to Sir Ernest Oppenheimer. After an animated discussion and seven month study and polishing of the stone makes them realize that it is a emerald cut diamond weighing 5.05 carat. When the study was completed, they looked the diamond under candlelight. It was like a drop of blood fallen on the hands.

Kazanjian red diamond went to tiffany twice a time and during the World War II, it was safely placed in the city of Arnhem. In 1944 occupation of Netherlands, the valuables were conquered by Nazis. The red diamond was in Germany and asscher said that the stolen goods have been found in the salt mine near Hitler infamous retreat. The US General said that diamond has ruby and asscher recognized that the ruby is a red diamond.

Later the diamond was sold to George prins and bought by Sir Ernest Oppenheimer. Asscher sold the gem to a private collection and it was unknown till Feb. 2007. Kazanjian Bros Inc bought the red diamond and named the stone in honor of the two founders who was famous for the rubies.
