The sancy stone is a pale yellow diamond, weighing 55.23 carats and believed to be originated in India. The unique feature of this stone is that it has no pavilion, instead a two pear shaped crowns are placed, one above the other on the top. It is considered to be an unusual diamond because of its symmetrical facets. Unfortunately, the information such as, the exact date of discovery and mine of origin is unknown.

Features of the diamond :

It is a 55.23 (11.046g) carats, exotic pale yellow, and shield shaped stone with brilliant cut. It is cut and faceted in such a way that the external shield shape is supported by two crowns, placed on one another, instead of pavilion. Usually, all yellow colored stones contain nitrogen impurities but this exquisite stone has boron impurities. Another noticeable feature is that it is the first massive yellow stone to be cut with symmetrical facets. The absence of physical abnormalities makes the stone structurally perfect.

Ancient history of the stone :

The sancy diamond has passed through numerous royal families and has a long history. The French ambassador, De- Sancy, purchased the stone, in Constantinople, in 1570 and travelled with the stone to Turkey. Henry III, Emperor of France, acquired the stone from the ambassador, in order to embellish his cap, which he wore to conceal his baldness. The stone adorned Queen Elizabeth for few years, later it found its way to France, in 1688, and again added to the French crown jewels of Louis, where it remained for several years. In 1828, Demerol, the Russian prince, purchased the stone from French emperor and the priceless stone rested in the treasure of Russian Prince till 1900. After few hands change, it becomes the property of Nancy Astor, wife of William Waldorf Astor. In 1978, Louvre purchased the stone from Astor family by paying a huge sum of $ 1 million. Now the stone rests in Louvre museum, grabbing everyone's attention.
